Once again the externally–judged competiton was well supported and twenty–eight members turned out to hear Mike Davis judge forty–one PDIs and sixteen prints in this month‘s competition. Prior to making his comments, Mike explained that for him, competition photographs should tell a story and that this would be reflected in his marks. After giving comprehensive and constructive comments on each entry, Mike had difficulty in choosing a winner in the PDI section and awarded twenty point each to A Rose for Chloe by Jen Barnes and Leon Evans‘sThe Cat‘s Whisker.

Equally, the print section taxed Mike‘s judging skills and Paul O‘Neill‘s Braking System together with Jen Barnes‘s Amy Rose both received maximum points.

The top scorers were:

There were fifty-seven images ⟨forty–two PDIs and fifteen prints⟩ for Brian Lomas to judge in the first competition of the year. Brian said he was impressed by the quality and quantity of the entries, especially the portraits and found it difficult to choose which to leave off his ‘hold back’ list. Each entry was evaluated and commented on and four PDIs received nineteen marks and three received twenty marks. The prints also received high praise from Brian, with three gaining twenty marks.

Brian chose Chloe by Kevin Gamwell as the winning DPI and Mark Hill’s Lion won the print section.
