High Peak Trophy
This is the fourth year that we have entered the High Peak Trophy, which is an annual photo battle between Bramhall PS, Chapel CC, Macclesfield CC and Stalybridge PC; this year's event was hosted by Chapel-en-le-Frith CC on Wednesday 23rd November. Several of our members made the trip into Derbyshire to see SPC triumph in the PDI section and come equal second in the prints, with the result that we returned with the trophy to Stalybridge.
The results are:
|Bramhall PS||Chapel CC||Macclesfield CC||Stalybridge PS|
Well done to our members who submitted images and thank you to Chapel CC for hosting a very enjoyable evening.
L&CPU PDI Knockout Competition
The 2016 L&CPU PDI Knockout Competition was held at Albany College, Chorley and we entered for the first time this year. We came joint twenty–second of the forty–five clubs who entered, with Chorley PS being the overall winner.
Battle with Oldham PS
We had our first PDI battle with Oldham PS this evening and came a creditable second; we scored 489 points and the hosts gained 498. Thanks to Oldham for an enjoyable evening and we look forward to the return contest, which will be on our home ground in May next year.
October’s battle with Hyde PS
The last day of October saw us away at Hyde PS for a battle. The judge was Graham Currey, who, after veiwing the twenty PDIs and twenty prints, awarded the following overall points:
Our thanks go to Hyde PS for hosting the night and to Graham for sharing his knowledge.
At this year’s Annual General Meeting the following Committee for the next twelve months was elected:
- Chairman – Keith Rawsthorne*
- Secretary – to be announced, David Oliver to act as Minutes Secretary in the interim
- Treasurer – Mike Wheeller*
- Derek Baker*
- Ian Boys*
- Kevin Gamwell*
- David Oliver*
- Stephen Price
NB * denotes re–elected. Christopher Barrett did not offer himself for re–election.
Photoshoot at Charlesworth
Fifteen members came to our first outdoor photoshoot of 2016, which was held in the hills above Charlesworth in the Peak District. We were blessed with fine weather, although the wind was rather severe and made life a little difficult by trying to blow us down into the valley below! The session was a success and no doubt numerous landscape shots taken during the evening will appear in future competitions.
Thanks to Ian Boys for suggesting the venue.
April’s battle with Hyde PS
Our first battle of 2016 was against Hyde PS and was at home; we had booked Graham Currey as the judge, but unfortunately he was unable to attend, however he arranged for Alfred Brown, the ex–president of South Manchester, to be his replacement.
There were forty excellent images and the opposition from Hyde was strong, too strong in fact. Alfred carefully considered each image and awarded the following overall points:
Our thanks go to Hyde PS for sharing their images with us and to Alfred for sharing his knowledge.
Snooker Club Photoshoot
Members took advantage of an invitation to visit Hillbillies Snooker Club, Oldham for a photoshoot and were not only able to use their cameras to good effect, but also to play a few frames of snooker.
Thanks to John for organising the evening.
